Local Band Profile: “The Howling Hex”

Neil Hagerty, of The Howling Hex (and formerly of Royal Trux and Pussy Galore), has just released his newest album, ironically titled The Best of The Howling Hex. The songs sound like a single insane polka number from a circus staffed by schizophrenics and sociopaths. It’s fun, frightening, and a bit off-putting, but certainly never boring. And it’s obvious Hagerty knows what he’s doing.

Screams from the Inside of an Cardboard Box was drawn by Luke Belsito over the course of two years. He possesses a rough but attractive drawing style that works well with the undeniably odd and at times fucked-up stories within the book. Screams is dark, but it also possesses a wicked sense of humor that will make you grin on occasion, even if you really shouldn’t.

Colorado Legislature Passes Historic Civil Unions Bill

The Colorado House passed a bill Tuesday that would allow same-sex couples to get civil unions in the state, sending the bill to Governor John Hickenlooper’s desk where it is expected to be signed into law. The bill passed by a vote that was close to party lines–all House Democrats voted in favor, with only two Republicans joining, for a 39-26 vote.
