Music Video Premiere: Swerve – “Green”

by Kevin Johnston

Goofy though they are, Greeley’s Swerve is an impressive and funky force newly unleashed on the Northern Colorado music scene, premiering their debut music video today via BandWagon Magazine, below. Having won the 2019 BandWagon Battle Of The Bands, the outfit have played prime slots at festivals like MayPlay and an upcoming hit at The Greeley Stampede on Tuesday night, July 2 after just one year of existence.

The energetic 5-piece is led by polished lead vocalist Lauren Johnston who guides the crowd like a wild, disco-ball-clad exercise instructor (which she is. Spencer Zweifel (Swerve’s co-founding member along with Johnston) provides radical keyboard elements bringing to mind ridiculous dance hits from the best version of your prom you could imagine. Adam Wissman’s dizzying, melodic guitar solos steer the band into prog territory while drummer Matt Brown, as Valerie Vampola once said, “lays down beats tighter than your high school jeans.” The line-up is rounded out by Julian Cary, who channels Thundercat in his aggressive, slack-bass approach, though he claims not to be a bassist. It’s worth noting, he sports a Thailand-inspired super-hero fashion sense the likes of which we ain’t never seen.

Former and slightly deviant Jazz students at The University Of Northern Colorado, Swerve channel their technically gifted, well-humored heroes Vulfpeck in their debut music video “Green,” the single off their forthcoming, eponymous debut record. Watch it below. Let’s dance.
