A red-headed, preacher’s son is either the most or least likely person to make a gospel / r&b record. Johnny Burroughs grew up playing contemporary worship music before becoming known as the lead singer of the high-energy soul band The Burroughs, so Day 1, his debut solo release out May 24, adds up.
Burroughs cites legends like Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin as inspiration to take a step outside the contemporary church to expand the sound of gospel music. In this case, it’s done through the lens of slick pop and even hip hop influences via award winning engineer Colin Bricker at Mighty Fine Productions in Denver.
BandWagon premieres the video for the album’s first single “God Is Love” today, which features the dance talents of Nathan Tran and Sofia Mejia, and was produced by Centennial Creative. Watch below!
