On a windy night, Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado, became a haven for music lovers as Tyler Childers took the stage, transforming the stadium into a place of pure joy and celebration. The night before CU Boulder’s move-in day, the crowd was a mix of students, locals, and fans from afar, all eager to experience the Appalachian soul that Childers is known for.
Opening acts Laidback Country Pickers and Shakey Graves set the tone for the evening. During his set, Shakey Graves surprised the crowd by bringing out special guest Sierra Ferrell for a stunning rendition of their duet “Ready or Not.” Ferrell, fresh off a performance at Denver’s Mission Ballroom the night before, added an extra layer of magic to an already enchanting night.
When Childers finally took the stage, his blend of country, bluegrass, and Americana resonated deeply with the audience. The setlist was a journey through his discography, from fan favorites like “Feathered Indians” and “Whitehouse Road” to newer tracks that showcased his evolving sound. The stage, adorned with rustic backdrops and intricate lighting, created an immersive visual experience that perfectly complemented the music.
Highlights included a heartfelt rendition of “All Your’n,” where the crowd’s voices joined in unison, filling the night with a collective harmony. Childers’ raw, soulful voice carried across the stadium, connecting with every listener on a profound level. As he moved through each song, the energy never waned; instead, it seemed to build, with the crowd dancing and singing, fully immersed in the moment.
In that shared experience, the night became more than just a concert; it was a celebration of music’s power to bring people together under the Colorado sky.
